The Calm After the Storm – A Charming Downtown Milwaukee Engagement Session

I love how much laughter and joy happened during Alex and Amanda’s engagement session. Below, you’ll see our photo adventure along the Milwaukee river and the Historic Third Ward.

FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS: Here are three strategies that I used to capture this session.

1. I captured Alex and Amanda in motion. It’s more difficult, but it almost always spurs on more smiles and energy that is hard to capture from stand still poses

2. I used backgrounds to enhance the interest of a photo, not take away from the couple. In big cities especially, I love looking for textures, colors, and patterns that add to the beauty of the overall image. For portraits, I want to insure that the background isn’t distracting though. I want my eye to go to the models first.

3. I payed attention to where the sun was, even though it was cloudy. The light is still usually better and more full when facing the direction of where the sun would be if it were out.

I hope this helps you in your own photographer adventures!
