As wedding and portrait photographers, we know that the right location can give our clients “the feels”. It’s of course important to focus on our models and capture them at their best, but in a way, the right background, even though it isn’t physically changing our models, makes them look even better, as it’s magical vibes pour onto them. With that in mind, I thought I’d share two of my favorite spots to shoot in the beautiful city of Chicago, shown visually from a collage of several of my recent engagement sessions. Whether you are a professional photographer, or an armature in town on vacation, these two spots will surely inspire you and your photography aspirations.
The first location is, Photographers Point at North Avenue beach. It will provide you with one of Chicago’s most stunning skyline backdrops. There is a long pier that shoots out west into the lake for a variety of angles. Shoot south for a city background and then shoot north for sunflares and beach photos.

The second location is the Chicago River off of Michigan Avenue. Shooting at the Chicago river is a great second location to switch up the vibes, as you are now in the midst of the city, surrounded by scyscrapers. As seen below, there are two levels to shoot at. You can shoot at city level above the river, and on the bridges or below at water level and underneath the bridges. As sean below, during Christmas time, just north of the river on Michigan avenue, there are Christmast lights that can create some magical bokeh.
