A Magical and Christmas Wedding!

One thing I’ve learned about wedding photography  is that I need to be ok with uncertainty, because so much of a wedding day is uncertain. Timing is uncertain, weather is uncertain, and people are uncertain. I’ve learned the importance of focusing all my thoughts and creativity into the present, and thinking about only what I can control. There’s a certain thrill in the unknown and a unique creativity that is forced upon one who must create art on the spot, instinctively, without overthinking. I think not overthinking and living in the moment is a good life skill.

Jake and Katie’s wedding presented a great opportunity for me to embrace the unknown that weather so often presents. It being a cold and sleety December wedding, I was given the challenge of uncertainty as I had to shoot only indoors and under overhangs. It allowed me to capture images that were uniquely special, and one’s that we would have never captured, had it been sunny.

I grew up staffing with Jake and his family at Camp Zion, so this was an extra special wedding for me. Jake and Katie were such a pleasure work with!
