5 Ways to Improve Your Pictures on Vacation {Including examples from a photographer and his wife in Cabo, Mexico}

  1. Include people in your pictures. That’s not to say that there’s never a time to take a picture of a beautiful flower or a mountain, but 20 years from now, I can guarantee that you will care more about the pictures with people in them.
  2.  Capture motion. Pictures of your family standing still, looking at the camera are great, but the interest level is very limited. Much more interesting, are pictures of your family in motion; walking, running, swimming, or jumping.
  3. Plan a photo adventure into your vacation. It will encourage you to be intentional about capturing timeless pictures and it will most likely turn into a fun memory in and of itself. The below pictures are from a 20 minute session that we intentionally planned for on our way to dinner. Now we have more than just a few selfies to look back on.
  4. In the background, capture what makes your location unique. For us, it was palm trees and beautiful pools.
  5. If you are immersed in the photography world than you’ve heard this before, but shoot during sunset. Everything always looks better during the golden hours before the sun sets.
  6. Or, you could hire me as your vacation photographer 😉
